I trust this e-mail continues to find you and your families healthy and safe. It wouldn’t be a weekend during the COVID-19 crisis without an e-mail alert from me about another Executive Order. While I normally would want to avoid sending the alert during the holiday weekend, this Executive Order contains good news with some important connotations.
Friday evening, Governor Andrew Cuomo issued his thirty-fourth Executive Order during this state of emergency. Executive Order 202.33 issues a single directive to address matters related to the COVID-19 crisis. This Executive Order is effective from May 22, 2020 through June 21, 2020. NEW DIRECTIVE — Public Gatherings
- Executive Order 202.10 originally prohibited the occurrence of all non-essential gatherings of any size for any reason. This Executive Order was extended by Executive Order 202.18 and Executive Order 202.29. The other day, Governor Cuomo extended and amended this directive in Executive Order 202.32 to permit a religious service or ceremony, or any Memorial Day service or commemoration, with ten or fewer individuals, provided that social distancing protocols and cleaning and disinfection protocols required by the Department of Health are adhered.
- Executive Order 202.33 now further modifies the prohibition of all non-essential gatherings to permit any non-essential gathering of ten or fewer individuals, for any lawful purpose or reason, provided that social distancing protocols and cleaning and disinfection protocols required by the Department of Health are adhered to. This directive is effective as of May 22, 2020. Thus, gatherings of 10 persons or less are now permitted throughout New York State so long as persons practice socially distancing at the gatherings and follow cleaning and disinfection protocols. This directive represents another step in the right direction in our fight against COVID-19.
